How We Raise Bulls
Birth: Ours bulls are born and raised here at the Lake of the Ozarks on fescue based pastures. Each bull is tagged and its weight and other information are entered into the AGA database.
Early Calf Processing: We bring our cows in for vaccinations three weeks prior to breeding. At this time all calves receive IBR/BVD Bovishield Gold5, Clostridial/blackleg 7-way UltraChoice 7, Injectable dewormer Dectomax, and Pour-on Standguard.
Pre-weaning: (21 days prior to weaning) Calves receive MLV respiratory/BVD Bovishield Gold One Shot, Clostridial/blackleg 7-way Ultrabac 7/Somubac, Injectable dewormer Dectomax, and Pour-on Standguard. At this time we also put out creep feeders filled with MFA Cattle Charge.
Weaning: Calves receive a modified-live respiratory shot Bovishield Gold5. Weaning weights are taken and entered into the AGA database. Calves are fence-line weaned from the cows. The first round of culling takes place at this time.
Development: All bulls that make the first round of cuts are moved to our development partner in northern Missouri. The bulls are developed on a high forage diet. The bull diet consists of corn silage, corn, dried distillers grain, alfalfa, mineral, free choice prairie hay and free choice Flaxlic tubs. Our bulls are developed on a 75% forage ration after weaning, with an average daily gain goal of 3 lbs/day. The developer works closely with our nutrition consultant to make any adjustments as necessary. Our feeding philosophy has always been to develop our bulls on minimal grain in order to keep them in athletic, working condition.
Our Bulls are then entered into the SeedStock Plus system with most entering at approximately one year of age. DNA testing and RFI testing is completed in order for the most accurate data to be presented at sale season. Our bulls are typically sold in the spring at approximately 18 months of age in the SeedStock Plus sales.
